Lay leaders
Rosedale United Church is both a community Church and a gathered Congregation. The majority of its members live in the Rosedale-Moore Park area but some members come from other parts of Toronto. Rosedale United is, we believe, a friendly and welcoming Congregation with about430 member households.
The members have a strong sense of community which is reflected in many ways, including participation and leadership on the Board, committees, Sunday School teaching and various community programs. A significant number of the members are academically and professionally trained people who hold positions of responsibility and leadership within their chosen careers and in volunteer activities.
The traditional term for the senior lay leader of the congregation is ‘Clerk of Session’ – a phrase from our Presbyterian heritage which denotes the importance of the person who gathers the wisdom and diligence of the elders of the congregation (the Session) to make decisions and set direction.
Clare Barry is the Clerk of Session from February 2010 until February 2012. Clare is an active professional in the Health sector, and has been a guiding light in Rosedale United’s prayer and pastoral care program for many years. Clare brings the spiritual gifts of deep compassion and a care that the work of the church be done thoroughly and well.

Past Clerk, Mark Smith
Mark Smith is the Past Clerk, a position he holds until February 2010. Mark travels the world in his work as a senior management consultant, but also understands the inner worlds of spiritual life, and the place of a congregation in nurturing the spirit so that the life of the community and the world becomes renewed.
